This is a great conversation that was trending on LinkedIn. It mentions some very interesting reasons, other than price per pound quote to consider using plastic and some of the reasons why plastic items are good for the environment.
Here are a couple reasons to choose plastic over other alternatives:
“plastics are incredibly energy efficient to manufacture and because they are lighter than alternative materials. Just two pounds of plastic can deliver 10 gallons—of a beverage. You'd need three pounds of aluminum, eight pounds of steel, or over 40 pounds of glass to bring home the same amount.”
“replacing plastics with alternative materials would require the use of 57 percent more energy and produce 61 percent more greenhouse gas emissions.”
When you start to figure plastic products are lighter in weight than other alternatives, that directly helps the environment in other ways…
“lighter weight means more product can be shipped using less energy, which helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions”
Another interesting fact- in the United States, which is different than China, the majority of plastics are made from domestic natural gas.
So you see, besides MSI providing alternative ways to help the environment with its recyclability, reusability, degradability and source reduction, we wanted to bring this very interesting information to light as well.
